The Power Of Temptation

A lady went shopping but her husband told her don’t buy anything… just window-shop. So she left on her adventure. She spots a dress in a store and decides to go in but she remembered what her husband told her. “That’s ok,” she thought, “just getting a better look won’t hurt.”
So, she goes in the store and of course, a salesperson immediately spots her and offers her help. She says, “No, I’m just looking” but the salesperson tells her it won’t hurt to just try it on. So she does.
As she admires the dress, she really likes it and, even though her husband had told her NOT to purchase, she does anyway.
When she arrives at home she is so excited! But her husband is aggravated. She says,         “Honey, the devil made me do it.”
The husband replied, “Why didn’t you tell him to get behind you?”
The lady replied, “I did, but he said it looked good from back there too!” 🙂
Well, that lady isn’t the only one to face temptation; we all do!
As long as we are in this world, we will face temptation. And it comes in many forms.
For some, they are tempted by electronics. I confess, I fall in that category. When I go to the Apple Store or Best Buy, I face temptation big-time!
For others, they may be tempted in an outdoors store… maybe Cabella’s is a place they are really tempted.
For others, maybe it’s sex or porn. Maybe they find themselves constantly tempted by flesh. It’s something that never stops.
We are all human so we all face temptation. But how do we deal it?
Hebrews 2:18 says, “For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.” This verse is teaching us that because Jesus faced temptation He understands the power of temptation. He understands the pull of temptation and He will help us deal with it.
How does Jesus help us? Jesus gives us power through the Holy Spirit. James 4:7 says, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
So, maybe there is something you are really being tempted by. The Bible says that if we draw near to the Lord, He will help us.
