The Blessed Hope – The Return Of Jesus

The news may refer to it as “the apocalypse” or, “armageddon” or, “judgment day.” Each of those is a reference to a time when Jesus Christ will return. But, there are lots of people who will kid Christians for believing in the second coming of Christ. Many will refer to the numerous times someone has predicted when the Lord will return and it didn’t happen. And, using that as a reference, they will say, “Jesus isn’t coming back… people keep predicting it but He’s not returning.”
And, those who believe that way are wrong. Jesus is coming back. In Titus 2:13, the apostle Paul referred to “…the blessed hope and the appearing of our great God.” Think about the words… “… the blessed hope.” For the early Christians, the return of Jesus was something to hope for… something to long for. Every day they faced persecution so, Jesus returning was something they hoped would happen. They were tired of the persecution. Jesus return would end all of that.
But when will Jesus return? Some will say the return of Jesus is closer than it’s ever been. They point to the moral breakdown of our nation and other things that are happening and some will say we are closer to the return of Jesus than ever. And, they are partially right; with every passing day we are closer.
I don’t know when Jesus will return and nor does anyone else.
Someone else may say, “Just look at the signs of the times.. We are living in the last days.” We have technically been living in the “last days” since Jesus ascended to heaven. So, are we living in the last days? Yes… and we have been for two-thousand years.
So, what do we need to do to be prepared for the return of Christ? First, we need to know Jesus as our Savior. Now, don’t play around with this… Has there been a time in your life when you prayed and asked Christ into your heart? If you have, then you are going to heaven. If you haven’t, you need to take care of that. I encourage you to do it soon.. as in… today.
But secondly, are you living for Christ? Are you using the spiritual gift the Lord has given you for His glory? Are you doing your part to build the kingdom of God? When you stand before the Lord and He evaluates how you have lived your life, what will it reveal? Have you served Jesus or, have you been wrapped in other things?
Jesus is coming back. And we must be ready… Like the early Christians, we are looking for “the blessed hope.”
