“Godliness With Contentment Is Great Gain”

“How much money is enough?”
The answer for many; “Just a little bit more.”
There is nothing wrong with working hard and making money.   But, the Bible does warn us to be careful about the love of money.
In I Timothy 6, the apostle Paul said, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” He went on to say, “For the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” That verse has been misquoted often. At times people will leave out the word “love” and they will says, “Money is the root of all evil,” and that’s not true. Money in and of itself, is just money.      It’s how we feel about money or handle money that becomes the problem.
If we are obsessed with making money… that become a problem. It can make us a workaholic and it can lead us to do things that are unethical or immoral or illegal to make a dollar.
Also, we err if we think we have to have certain things to enjoy life. Paul said if we have food and shelter… that’s all we need
Now, there is nothing wrong with having things… nothing wrong with having a nicer home or a nicer automobile or being able to travel. There is nothing wrong with any of that but, if we don’t have it, we can live without it.
So, what is your attitude toward money? Are you obsessed with making money? Or, are you so frugal you won’t give money to help others?
Paul said, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” Be thankful for what God has given you… work hard… make money as the Lord gives you opportunity… just don’t let money become your God.
