Dealing With Worry And Anxiety

Anxiety…
Worry…
Most of us have experienced both… I would say all of us have experienced both but I have known some people who say, “I don’t worry about much.” I wish I was more like that.
Now, before anyone jumps in and says, “Man, you’re a Preacher…. you are not supposed to worry;” I hear you and I wish it were that simple but, I’m human as well and many times the human in me over-rides the Preacher in me.
This morning, as I am doing my Bible-reading, I read from Philippians 4. It’s one of the best best verses in the Bible on anxiety. Paul says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and mind in Christ Jesus” (4:6-7).
Look at that verse; Paul says be anxious for nothing… instead of being anxious, Paul says “let your requests be made known unto God..” And what happens when we do that?      Paul says, “the peace of God… which surpasses all comprehension… shall guard your hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.”
Do, do you have peace this morning? Paul says we can have it… if we turn everything over to God.
I know… that’s easier said than done. It’s a challenge for me. What causes us anxiety?
Maybe it’s money… as in we are concerned if we are going to have enough money…
Maybe it’s our health…
Maybe it’s our job…
Or our church… maybe our church is going through some transition and we are a little anxious.
Paul says, “In everything by prayer and supplication… let your requests be made known to God.. .and the peace of God… will fill our hearts.”
How do you do that? This is what I do…
There is an old saying that we should “prayer as if everything depended on God and act as if everything depended on you.”
Today.. try to give whatever concerns you to the Lord.
