“I Didn’t Get These Skates To Give Up With”

A little girl was in a park after Christmas learning to roller skate. An old man sitting on a park bench watched her closely. She would fall down and get up again and fall down once more.
Then the little girl took an especially bad fall, and the man called out to her, “Honey, why don’t you just give up?”
Shakily, she pulled herself to her feet, looked the man straight in the eye, and said,     “Mister, I didn’t get these roller skates to give up with.”
We are like that little girl… we have all had days that “skinned our elbows..” But, we get up and try again. (cf. “String of Pearls”, by Mary Crowley).
