The Lord Is My Shepherd – He’s All I Need

We live in a very materialistic society. TV ads or radio ads or internet ads are designed to make us think we need more. We may have everything we need but the ads make us think we should have more.
In this materialistic age, Psalm 23 reminds us if we have Jesus, He is sufficient. Psalm 23:1 says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall want.”
Think about that… “The Lord is my shepherd…” and because He is, “..I shall not want.”
The Psalmist tells us the Lord is His shepherd and because He is, the Psalmist says, “I don’t need anything.” The Psalmist is saying, “I’m content with Jesus… ” He will add later in the text, “My cup runneth over… ”
I’m reminded of the old song George Beverly Shea used to sing;
“I’d rather have Jesus, than silver or gold
I’d rather be His than have riches untold
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or land
I’d rather be led by his nail-pierced hand.
Than to be the King of a vast domain and be held in sin’s dread sway.
I’d rather have Jesus than anything, This world affords today.”
Today… rest in Jesus. If we have a relationship with Him, that is all we need.
