Jesus Is Worthy Of Our Commitment

What are you committed to?
Yesterday, I saw two men sitting under a tent at a store in Acworth. Holli and I had taken Will’s truck there to get the oil changed. I walked over to the men and asked who they were raising money for? They were the coaches of AAU basketball team and were raising money for their kids to go to nationals.
We talked a little about they select their team etc…. These guys put in a lot of hours with this AAU team. They are committed to it.
In Acts 21, the apostle Paul is in Caesarea in the home of Philip the Evangelist. They knew Paul was en route to Jerusalem. But they told Paul he would die there. They pleaded with him not to go.
Paul stopped them and said, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 21:13).
Paul was committed to Christ.
Now, fast-forward the tape about 1700 years. There is a rebellion growing among the colonists of America toward England. In the second Virginia Convention, Patrick Henry stands and utters his famous words; “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.”
Patrick Henry wanted freedom and was willing to fight for it.
So, again… what are you committed to?
As we approach the fourth of July… the day we celebrate our nation’s birth, let’s remember the words of Paul and Patrick Henry. Both men were committed to something. Paul was ready to die for Jesus, if necessary. Patrick Henry was willing to die for freedom, if necessary.
What are you committed to today? Make sure that what you are committed to, is worthy of your time. Jesus is. Worship Him… serve Him today.
