We Need To Be A Mary In A Martha World

It’s a good thing to be busy for the Lord, right?
While it’s commendable to busy for the Lord, be careful and don’t become so busy that you neglect the most important thing and that’s knowing Jesus.
On one occasion Jesus and His disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. They came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary. When Jesus came into their home, Martha was scurrying around preparing a meal for Jesus. While she was preparing a meal, her sister was sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to the Master.
Mary noticed her sister sitting and it infuriated her She went to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? ” Martha was expecting Jesus to say, “Martha; you are right… and I will talk to Mary.”
Instead, Jesus said, “My dear Martha… you are worried and upset over all these details. There is only one thing worth being concerned about and Mary has discovered it.”Jesus was telling Martha she was too concerned with a meal. She needed to just listen to Jesus.
We can make the same mistake. There are times when Christians can get so busy doing the work of the church that we neglect the Lord of the church. While getting busy for the kingdom in a local church is commendable, make sure it doesn’t consume you and it can.
Today, make sure there is nothing that has consuming your time and energy and preventing you from knowing and growing in the Lord.
