Too Important To Take Out Trash

I don’t like dealing with trash. I’m just confessing here But it has to be done. On my job, one of my daily tasks is taking out the trash. So, every morning, when I get to work, that’s the first thing I do… empty the trash. Ok… transparency here… There are days when I almost detest doing it. I mean, after all… (I’m sticking my chest out here. :))…. I’m a Pastor. I’m too important to be taking out trash..actually, I’m not… nor are you. There is not task too small for any Christian.
Have you been asked to do something that seems kind of small and insignificant? Or, have you been asked to do something that is going to be dirty? You have rejected doing it because you feel maybe you are too big for that task?
In Genesis 50, when Joseph dies he makes the sons of Israel promise that when they leave Egypt, they will take his bones with them. Now fast forward….
In Exodus, as Israel was leaving Egypt, Moses assigned someone to carry the bones of Joseph. Think about that… everyone else is carrying things the Egyptians had given… but one person, was carry a dead man’s bones. Not a glamorous task, right?
Can you imagine if this happened today? Let’s say someone is asked to carry a dead man’s bones. I could hear some Christian say, “I’m not carrying those filthy bones!”
But someone carried Joseph’s bones. Maybe you have been asked to carry the bones of Joseph? Or, you have been asked to do something that seems insignificant. Nothing is too small for us to do. If you have been asked to do something that you don’t want to do… set your pride aside and serve.
