That’s the phrase many would use to describe food that is good for your heart. Maybe you are in a restaraunt and you are looking at the menu. Certain dishes may be marked “heart healthy” meaning, they are low in calories. When we exercise and eat right, we are taking care of our heart, the physical organ. But the heart is also the center of our emotions and the center of our spiritual lives. That’s why Jesus told us to be careful to guard our hearts.
In Matthew 15:19, Jesus said, “For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” Jesus was saying that everything starts in the heart which is why we need to guard our heart.
So, how do you guard your heart? You be careful what goes into your heart and… monitor your heart. Jesus said… “For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder.. adultery… etc…” Those are wicked thoughts. So we should guard our hearts and monitor our hearts. When an unhealthy thought arises, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we discard it.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful in all things and desperately wicked…”
So, we need to guard our heart. Be careful what goes into your heart. I mean, if something is bad for your heart, you are likely not going to eat it. The same should apply to our hearts from a spiritual standpoint.
Guard your heart!
