“May Those That Come Behind Us Find Us Faithful”

There is a lady in the gym I’m a member of who is a trainer. When her clients come in, they report to her and she has an exercise plan for them and, she instructs them in what to eat and what not to eat. She was with them from thirty minutes to an hour and then, they leave. If they follow her nutrition plan… if they are faithful to it… they will lose weight. If they don’t, they wont lose weight. The key is faithfulness.
It’s the same in the Christian life; the Lord wants His people to be faithful. In Revelation six, there is a scene where John sees a scroll that has seals on it. When the lamb broke the fifth seal, John said he could see those who were martyrs for the Christian faith and those who had died because of their faithfulness to God. Those last few words caught my attention… their faithfulness to God… actually, the text reads, “…being faithful in their testimony.”
Are we faithful in our testimony? These people were martyrs because they had been faithful to God. They lost their lives because they were faithful to God.
Are we faithful? Are we faithful to worship? To give? To serve?
The Lord doesn’t expect us to do something we aren’t gifted at. But, the Lord does expect us to be faithful. Everyone can be faithful. It doesn’t take a spiritual gift to be faithful.
You may think your contribution to the Lord’s work isn’t significant. You may question if you are useful in the kingdom. If you are faithful in big things and small things that’s what God expects… faithfulness…
Micah 6:8 says, “He has told you O man what is good, and what does the Lord require of you? But to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God.” “Walk humbly…” that is faithfulness.
Steve Green has a song that goes;
“May those that come behind us find us faithful.
May the fire of our devotion light their way.
May the footprints that we leave.
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey.”
