God Can Knock Us Down To Get Our Attention

Ok… another bit of confession… in hopes it’ helps someone.
I had gotten a little arrogant…but during this last twenty-one months, God has humbled me. I have a Doctor of Ministry degree… and I am proud of it… but I was too proud… God has taught me, that degree means nothing God isn’t concerned about what degree I might have.. He’s concerned about my heart..
I had the opportunity to Pastor some good churches… and maybe I began to be a little full of myself… but God knocked me down. My experience was somewhat like Jonah. God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to preach. But Jonah had other plans. He didn’t like the Ninevites.. He couldn’t bring himself to preach to them. So, he got on a ship… he thought.. sailing away from God.
But God found him. God always finds us… We can’t hide from God.
God appointed a whale to swallow Jonah up and he spent a couple of nights in the belly of a whale. While he was there, Jonah began to realize, “You know… preaching in Nineveh might not be too bad, after all.” So Jonah prayed. He confessed his pride and promised God he would do things His way if He would give him another chance. So God caused the whale to spit Jonah up and Jonah went to Nineveh.
Has God called you to do something but you are so filled with pride, you haven’t done it? Friend, God can get your attention. It’s much easier to do things God’s way.
Someone has said that the only person who walks away from God empty, is a person who is full of themselves.”
Proverbs 29:23 says, “Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.”
Don’t let pride be your downfall. Humble yourself before God.
