Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart

Today is Thanksgiving. A day intended for us to pause and express thanks for God’s blessings in our lives. Gratitude is so important in our lives. It has been said that you cannot be unhappy and grateful at the same time.
The Psalmist challenges us to “Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name” (Psalms 100:4).
Think with me about God’s blessings in our lives…
1) Salvation… If Jesus Christ doesn’t leave heaven and come to earth and give His life on the cross of Calvary, we are doomed to an eternity in hell. We need to thank God for our salvation. If you aren’t a Christian, I encourage you to give your life to Christ.
2) Provision… God has provided for us. Most of us will sit down to a table full of food today. Most of us have jobs… we have shelter… we have clothing.. God has provided for us. We need to express thanks for provision.
3) Our nation… No, the United States of America is not perfect by any stretch but, it is still the greatest nation on the face of the earth. We need to give thanks that we live in the United States of America where we enjoy freedom.
4) Our families… Most of us have families… but some reading this may not. If you are blessed to have family, be thankful for them because many people have no family.
5) Friends… Some of the happier times of our lives are spent with friends. Someone has said that a real friend walks in when everyone else walks out.
That is true. Today, be thankful for friends.
6) Church…. Since this is my list, I include church. Someone reading this may not feel the same way I do about church and that’s your prerogative. About 21 months ago, God led Holli and me to join FBC Cartersville. The Pastor, Jeremy Morton is a friend and our Sunday School class has been a blessing. We are thankful for our church.
7) Instruction… In the past twenty-one months, the Lord has taught me a lot and has convicted me a lot. I am THANKFUL for the Lord’s instruction. God has grown me and matured me and stripped me. If it is the Lord’s will for me to Pastor again, I will be a better Pastor because of what God has taught me.
There is song that goes;
“Give thanks with a grateful heart,
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.”
Today, join me in giving thanks to the Lord for all His blessings in our lives.
