The Blessing Of Obedience

Has the Lord been speaking to your heart about something but you have resisted? You haven’t been obedient?
Maybe there is something you have been prompted to volunteer for but you have resisted. Maybe you have been out of a church for a while and the Holy Spirit has been prompting you to find a church home but you haven’t been obedient.
Maybe the Lord has been speaking to you about tithing but you haven’t started… You are resisting being obedient.
In John 15:5, Jesus spoke on the importance of obedience when He said, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
When we are raising children, we teach them to obey. We reward them when they obey because want to reinforce in their minds that being obedient is right.
When animals are trained, they are given a prize when they are obedient. So obedience is good. It’s right.
In Ezekiel 20, the prophet is talking about the times when God gave Israel instructions but they did not obey. The Lord says, ““But their children, too, rebelled against me. They refused to keep my decrees and follow my regulations, even though obedience would have given them life” (Ezekiel 20:21).
Notice the Lord said, “… even though obedience would have given them life.” God gave Israel instructions but they refused to obey even though doing so, would have given them life. The same is true for us.
It requires obedience for a person to be saved. They must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Then, once we are saved, we enjoy the Christian life more when we are obedient. When we are obedient, we worship. When we are obedient, we tithe. When we are obedient, we are right with our fellow man.
Obedience is the key.
Today, if we want to enjoy the Christian life, the key is obedience. There is an old gospel song that goes;
“When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Has Jesus been prompting you to do something but you have resisted? Obey the Lord. It’s always best.
