Name It And Claim It Theology Isn’t Right

Psalms 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart."
Psalms 20:4 says, "May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed."
Some television preachers preach a "name it and claim it" theology. That means you can ask God for whatever you want and God will grant it. And some will use the verses above as a proof-text for that. They will say those verses represent a blank-check from God. So, if you want a big house, just ask for it and God will bless. You want a nice car? Ask God and He will give it to you.
But that's not what those verses mean.
Psalms 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord THEN, God will give you desires of your heart. That means that when we have a close walk with the Lord, our desires become God desires. We want what God wants for us. And when we do, yes, God gives us the desires of our heart.
Let's look at this another way. God loves us, right? Yes He does. And God wants what's best for us, right? Yes He does. So we can TRUST God to give us what we NEED not necessarily what we want.
So, love the Lord…delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart because your desires are God's desires.
