Learning From Criticism

Most of us don’t like it. But, criticism is helpful and can help us grow and mature.
Proverbs 13:18 says, “If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
Think about that verse… “If you ignore criticism you will end in poverty… but if you accept it you will be honored.”
Why should we accept criticism? Because it helps us grow and learn. Maybe someone has told you something recently that really irritated you. Maybe it got under your skin. Ok, stop and think about what was said.
Was it right? If it was, then you need to listen to it. It can help you grow as a Christian.
Years ago, an older Pastor told me that when he received criticism he asked the Lord to help him receive what was helpful and throw away the rest. That’s good advice for us.
So, when you receive criticism… don’t get angry and dismiss it… Instead, receive it. Be open to it. Learn from it then toss the rest aside.
