You Have Stayed At This Mountain Long Enough, Now Move Forward

Is there something that you happened to you that you are still angry over? Or, you re-hash it constantly? At times, that happens. Most of us have something that’s happened to us that stings… or maybe even, hurts deeply. It’s natural for us to feel hurt and perhaps to linger over it some. But, there comes a time when it’s best for us to move on.
In Deuteronomy 1:7-8,  Moses is preparing Israel to cross the Jordan. As he does, he goes back with the people and remembers how God has blessed them in the past. Then Moses mentions the time they were at Mt. Sinai. Moses tells the people that the Lord spoke to them at Sinai and said, “You have stayed at this mountain long enough… it is time… to move on.” I love that verse!
“You have stayed at this camp long enough, Israel.. you need to move on!”
God may be saying that very thing to someone reading this… “You have stayed at this mountain long enough, Christian, it’s time to move on.
What are some mountains some of us could be lingering at?
Some may be lingering at the mountain of a divorce that was tough.
Some may be lingering at the mountain of a job loss.
Some may be lingering at the mountain of a bad experience in church
Some may be lingering at the mountain of a mistake they made.
If you are lingering at a mountain.. or, if you are lingering over an issue or maybe a hurt that was done, I encourage you to move on. I’m not minimizing the pain. I have had some tough experiences as well.
One time, I was struggling with someone and I told Holli, “If so and so would just say this.. it would help.”
Holli replied, “Gregg, you are looking for something that isn’t going to come.”
She was right. I didn’t need to linger at that moment and wait for something that wasn’t going to happen. I needed to move on.
Churches are notorious for this. Churches can linger at the mountain of a period in their history that in their minds, were “the good ole days.”
Some churches linger around the memory of a former Pastor… never moving forward but constantly talking about the way things were back then.
Today, maybe there is a mountain that you are lingering around. Just as God told Israel, “You have been at this mountain long enough… it’s time to move on…”
