Dealing With Temptation

Years ago, Comedian Flip Wilson had a character that he dressed up as who was named “Geraldine.” When “Geraldine” did something wrong she would say, “The Devil Made Me Do It!”
Well, the devil has tempted us all to sin.
As Jesus began His ministry, He was led out into the wilderness. Jesus ate nothing during that time and became hungry. Then, Jesus was tempted by the devil. First, Satan said,”If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.” But Jesus replied, “People do not live by bread alone.”
Then, Jesus the devil took Jesus up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world. Satan said, “I will you give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them… if you will worship me.”
Jesus replied, “You must worship the Lord your God.”
Then, the Devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the temple and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off because the scriptures say “He will order his angels to protect you and guard you..”
Jesus replied, “The Scriptures also say, “You must not test the Lord your God.”
After this, Satan Jesus until the next opportunity came.
We all face temptation. But notice how Jesus defended Himself… Each time He replied with Scripture.
Temptation is real. We all face it. And each one is tempted in different ways. We have to be aware of our area of weakness and know that Satan will tempt us there.
Also, don’t think you can overcome temptation in your own strength… we need the power of the Holy Spirit to help us. The good news is, the Bible says, “Greater is He that is in You than He that is in the world”(I John 4:4).
