Today is Valentine’s Day. A day when many people will give their spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend a card, maybe some candy… maybe some roses to express their love for them.
But let’s look at the opposite side of Valentine’s Day. For many people, this may be a tough day because they are brokenhearted on Valentine’s Day. Some are brokenhearted because they are going through a divorce. Some maybe lost a spouse recently. For many people, they are brokenhearted today.
Psalms 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Think about that verse…
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted… are you hurting today? Has your heart been broken recently? Or maybe your heart was broken years ago and it still hasn’t mended.
The Bee Gee’s have a song that goes;
“I can think of younger days when to live for my life
Was everything a man could want to do.
I could never see tomorrow,
I was never told about the sorrow.
How can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?”
Maybe your heart is broken today. If so, the Bible says God is near the brokenhearted… he rescues those whose spirits are crushed…
But how does God rescue the brokenhearted? He often uses His people. Today, fi you know someone that is broken-hearted, say a kind word, encourage someone, give someone a hug if it’s appropriate.
God is near the broken-hearted.
