Moses Didn’t Give Us Ten Suggestions But Ten Commandments

If you were to ask ten people what the problems are in America, you would likely get twenty answers! And we do have many problems that have to be addressed. But one of the greatest problems we have is not a political one. It’s not an economic problem. It’s a spiritual problem. America needs to return to a belief in Absolute truth.
Ok, you may ask, “What is absolute truth?” “Absolute truth” teaches that there is truth… that is absolute… it is true all the time. So, what is that truth? It’s God’s word. The Bible represents absolute truth.
In the book of Exodus, God gave Israel the Ten Commandments. Jesus summed up the Ten Commandments when He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and might; and love your neighbor as yourself.” So, if we love God with all our heart… God is our top priority. And, if we love our neighbor as ourselves, we are treating our fellow man the way we should treat them.
So, absolute truth means to put God first in all we do and love our neighbor. If we do that, it’s going to eliminate many of the problems in our nation.
If we put God first, there will be a respect for human life which eliminates abortion. If we put God first, we worship and have reverence for God which leads us to do what God has told us to do.
If we love our neighbor, we will be kind to others. We will not covet. We will not gossip.
Years ago, Ted Koppel gave the commencement address at Duke University. Koppel was challenging the graduates to make a difference in the world. Then he challenged them to live by the Ten Commandments. He said, “Moses didn’t come down from the mountain with ten suggestions, but ten commandments.”
Today, join me in making decisions based on absolute truth.
