Manasseh: “God Has Helped Me Forget All My Troubles”

Every human being has made mistakes. It’s part of living… if you are living and breathing then at some point in your life, you have messed up. The good news is that Jesus forgives us of our past. However, even though Jesus forgives us, Satan will remind us of it.
There may be times when something you did in the past comes to mind. You have asked forgiveness for it but Satan still reminds you of it. When this happens, you can think that you are a failure. But, Jesus not only forgives us of our past, He helps us forget our past.
In Genesis 37 and on to the end of Genesis, God tells us about Joseph. Joseph was Jacob’s baby boy and Jacob loved him. But Joseph’s brothers were jealous of him. So, they sold their brother to some Midianite traders and they eventually sold him to Potiphar, who was an officer of Pharoah, the king of Egypt. Joseph was Pharoah’s servant until he was thrown into prison. He languished in prison for several years until he was put in charge of Pharoah’s home. So, Joseph was sold by his brothers and put in jail by Pharoah. So, he’s gone through some times. But then, Joseph rises to a very prominent position in Egypt.
So, when Joseph names his firstborn, his mind goes back to all the problems he had. It goes back to being sold by his own brothers. It goes back to Pharoah’s wife trying to have sex with him and when he ran, she told her husband that Joseph was trying to have sex with her and for that, he ends up in prison. But now, God has blessed him. So, as he names his first child, Joseph names him “Manasseh,” which means, “God has made me forget all my troubles.”
As I said at the beginning of this post, we have all had problems. We have all experienced trials. And Satan can replay those like a never-ending movie in our minds. But Joseph said, “God has made me forget all my troubles.”
Today, maybe you need to give God all your troubles… just lay them all out… and ask God to help you forget them.
The mistake you made in High School? God help me forget it.
The crazy stuff you did in college that you wonder now, what you were thinking when you did it…. God help me forget it.
The mistakes you made as a young adult… God help me forget it.
The bad financial decision you made… God helps me forget it.
The list could go on…
Today, God wants to forgive you of your past and help you forget it. He is “the God who helps us forget all our troubles.”
