“I Walked Through My Tears”

This past week, Carrie Fisher passed away on Tuesday and on Wednesday, her mother, Debbie Reynolds passed away. We were shocked. The daughter passes away one day and her Mom, the very next day.
In yesterday’s Atlanta Journal Constitution, there was a story about the trials that Debbie Reynolds went through. Evidently, there was a time when she and her daughter were estranged from one another. Then, Debbie Reynolds said, “I had to walk through my tears, but it was worth it.”
Think about that line… “I had to walk through my tears.” Debbie Reynolds was was heart-broken and shed lots of tears for her daughter. Most of us have been where she was… walking through our tears.
Maybe you have walked through your tears over a child that has gone astray. Maybe you have walked through your tears over a marriage that is struggling. Maybe you have walked through your tears over a parent or child or friend who has passed away.
Maybe in 2016, you have walked through lots of your tears. It’s the last day of the year and you are looking forward to putting 2016 behind you But, if we are honest, we may walk through some more tears. But, if we do, the Lord is with us.
This past Wednesday night, a Minister friend of mine, Dr. Paul Powell of Tyler, Texas passed away. Earlier this year I was talking with him and he said that one of his children had passed away. Then he added, “But the Shepherd walks with us through the trials…” Indeed he does.
As we close out this year, as you look back on ’16, maybe you too, have walked through lots of tears. And as you look back, you know… you wouldn’t have made it without the Lord. Today, thank the Lord for strength during the trials of life. Thank Him for strength, when you walk through your tears.
