“Peace On Earth Good Will To Men”

Christmas day is over. That doesn’t mean the “season” is over.. the Christmas season can run throughout the year… that is is the “season of giving.” But yesterday morning in church, an idea impressed me.
When the angels appeared to the Shepherds they said the Messiah would bring “peace among men with whom He is well pleased” (Luke 2:14). In the song, “I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day,” the lyrics are, “Peace on earth, good will to men.” Think about that phrase… “Peace on earth, good will to men.”
That is a good motto or statement to live by in 2017. Peace on earth shouldn’t be limited to Christmas. Peace on earth can and should mark our lives daily. How is that? Well, first, it is evident in our lives when we have a relationship with the Lord. Secondly, it’s evident in our lives when we are doing God’s will in our lives. We are at peace. But third, it’s evident in our lives when we are right with our fellow man.
But think about the last part of that phrase… “good will to men.” “Good will to men” means doing good things. Helping our fellow man. Being kind to our fellow man. Doing “good will” to men. During the Christmas season, we think about being kind to others. But we should think about daily. We don’t have to wait till Christmas to “do good will to men.”
So, as we move toward the new year, let’s resolve to live by doing our part to bring peace on earth and doing good will to men.
I believe it was John Wesley who said, “Do as much good as you can, in as many ways as you can, as long as you ever can.” That’s good advice for us.
