Merry Christmas from the Potts Family!
2016 has been a year of celebration, challenges, and growth.
In January, Holli and I got to take the trip of a lifetime when we traveled to Israel. I could write a couple of pages just on that trip. It was outstanding! I encourage you to go to Israel. It really makes the Bible come alive. It is so fulfilling to see the places where Bible events took place.
As we sailed on the Sea of Galilee, I stood looking at the water. To think that two-thousand-years ago Jesus walked on that very water is amazing! I encourage you, if you get the opportunity, to take a trip to Israel. A lady at FBC Emerson who has gone to Israel said, “If you have to borrow the money, go.” You will not regret it.
In February, I resigned as Pastor of FBC Emerson. I just felt like the church needed new leadership. Since that time, I’ve worked at Nissan and Ford. Holli and I joined Cartersville First Baptist and are enjoying it. We are praying for an open door for ministry as the Lord leads.
This has been a very different year for us. But, God has taught me so much during this time. First, God has helped me to see what it’s like to work in the world. I say that because, I’ve learned that pastors kind of live in a bubble. Because of that, we often don’t have as much connections with the real world. But this year, I have. And, this has allowed me to witness to people I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to if I were serving a church.
Second, I’ve learned that you don’t have to have a pulpit to preach. Back in the spring, I started doing live videos on Facebook. It has amazed me how God has used those. As some of you know, I’m pretty active on social media and that’s by design. Social media has become my outlet to witness, encourage and teach. I am not boasting when I say this, but every now and then someone will tell me how much they enjoy the videos. That blesses my heart.
Now, let me give you an update on the family…
Robert and Lauren announced in September that they are expecting in April of 2017. It’s a boy and they are going to name him Peyton Hollis. To say that we are excited would be a major understatement. We are looking forward to Peyton Hollis coming into the world. Pray for Robert, Lauren and Peyton. Robert continues in his position for the tourism department for Israel, while Lauren is caring for patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite.
Will… continues to manage the Chik-Fil-A in TownCenter mall and he is dating Kendall Winship. Will plans to go into Chik-Fil-A’s leadership program to prepare him to own a Chik-Fil-A.
Sarah… graduated from KSU last December and this August, she started teaching Second grade. at Acworth Elementary. She loves her job! She continues to date Landon Turner.
Holli is in her 3rd year of teaching at North Paulding High School. The competition squad she helps coach made it to the State finals this year. She loves the school and her kids although, like many teachers, she is looking forward to the breaks.
Like many of you, we are able to keep up with the lives of our friends through social media. If you are on Facebook and haven’t already, send us friend request. Also, I invite you to follow my blog at http://www.greggpotts.com. We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy 2017!
