Christmas: A Reason To Celebrate

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This celebration started in Scripture. In Luke 1, Elizabeth had just been told she was going to have a baby who would be named John. Then, Elizabeth went to visit her cousin Mary who was also pregnant. The Bible says that when Elizabeth greeted Mary, Elizabeth’s child moved in her womb. Elizabeth praised Mary for being chosen as the mother of the Christ-child.
Hearing this praise, Mary was moved to sing. She then sang a song that is known today as the “Magnificat.” The word “magnificat” means “song of Mary.” So, as Mary greeted Elizabeth, Mary was overwhelmed with praise that she would give birth to the Christ child.
Mary’s response should be our response as well. Christmas should be a time of celebration. We should celebrate the fact that God loves us. Maybe you are down… discouraged.. hurting. You think no one cares… God cares. If God didn’t care for us, he wouldn’t have sent His Son to die for us.
Think about that… God sent His ONLY Son to earth to die for you and me. His ONLY Son! Because God loves us. That alone is reason to celebrate.
Christmas is four days away. I encourage you to carve out time each day to listen to at least one Christmas song and read parts of the Christmas story. Celebrate the face that Jesus Christ came into this world to save us. He loves us… When the world turns it back on us, Jesus loves us and… we should celebrate that!
