Living… Trusting… One Day At A Time

Are you going through a tough time? Do you have questions but no answers? Are you praying but it seems like you aren’t getting answers?
I understand. I’m there now. You want direction but it doesn’t seem to come. You wonder why some things are happening but there is no answer.
What do you do in those situations? You do the only thing you can do… you trust God for that moment… that day and then, you trust God for tomorrow.
As I go through this time, I thought of the Serenity Prayer… You are likely familiar with it;

“God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.”

You may be familiar with that part of the prayer.. but there is more to it. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this part. Let’s look at it..

“Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Look at those words… “living one day at a time…
“Enjoying one moment at a time…”
“Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace..”

The serenity prayer teaches us to take one day at a time. One hardship at a time… One struggle at a time..
That’s good stuff. We may not be able to see tomorrow. Don’t worry about tomorrow… live today… ask God for peace today.

I have questions but no answers. I don’t know why some things are happening and some things aren’t happening. I don’t know. But I know God exists so I will do the only thing I know to do… I will trust Him.
