There Is Power In The Blood

Some of you have given blood at a blood drive at some point in your life. In giving blood, you are helping to give life to someone. The reason is, there is life in the blood.
In the same way that there is life in the blood, there is salvation in the blood of Jesus. Let me explain. Let’s go back to the Old Testament.
God had a very elaborate sacrificial system for the people of Israel. In order to redeem the sins of the people, once a year, on what was called the “Day of Atonement,” the great High Priest would slit the throat of a lamb. The blood from the lamb would then drain into a basin. The Great High Priest would then take that blood into the Holy of Holies and he would sprinkle that blood on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant. In so doing, the Great High Priest was making “atonement” for the sins of the people. The word “atonement” means to “cover” sin.
Now, let’s fast forward to the New Testament. On the Passover, Jesus Christ died on the cross. When Jesus was on the cross, He shed blood. The blood of Christ, replaces the blood of the lamb in the Old Testament. Jesus became the lamb and shed His blood for us.
So, it is through the blood of Christ that our sins are forgiven. It is through the blood that we experience saving power.
Growing up in church, there were a number of hymns that we sang that dealt with the blood of Christ.
“What can wash my sins, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.’
