Living In The ConTENT Tent

Are you content? Or, are you constantly wanting something else… something more? Most of us struggle with contentment at times.
One reason is because we live in a materialistic world. We are barraged with advertising that is intended to make us want more.. to never be satisfied.  But, if we are constantly wanting more, we won’t be content and that leads to unhappiness.
In Ecclesiastes 6:8, the Bible says, “Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have.”
I like that verse… it speaks to my heart. “Enjoy what you have…” That means that we should be content. Rather than, “desiring what you don’t have.”
So, are you content? Ok, be honest.
Are you satisfied with what you have? Or, are you constantly wishing you had something else? If we are constantly longing for more, we will never be happy. There is nothing wrong with having nice things unless the quest for nice things keeps us from being happy.
The apostle Paul said, “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am” (Phil. 4:11). Paul spent time in prison yet, he was able to be content.
So, what is the secret to being content? First we must have a relationship with Jesus. All of us have a void in our lives that can only be filled by Christ. Unfortunately, lots of people try to fill that void with stuff… with trips… with the newest things. Those things might bring you temporary happiness but not long-term happiness.
Today, ask the Lord to help you be content. To be satisfied. That doesn’t mean we stop trying to grow spiritually or professionally but, we don’t have to have stuff.
There is an old expression that speaks to this; “You know how much money it takes for us to be happy? Just a little bit more.”
Jesus loves us and accepts us as we are. We be content in our relationship with Christ.
