Don’t Dwell On Minor Issues – Live A Life Of Peace, Joy & Happiness

What does God expect of us in living the Christian life? As we try to honor the Lord, if we aren’t careful we can focus on things we aren’t supposed to do as opposed to doing the things we should do.
For example, in the first century, pagans would purchase meat and offer it as a sacrifice to a pagan god. Then they would sell that meat. So some people were eating meat that had been sacrificed to a pagan god.
Some of the more mature Christians would eat that meat. But, if someone was a new Christian, because they were very young in their faith, they thought it was wrong to eat that meat because it had been sacrificed to an idol. There was nothing spiritually wrong with eating the meat but, because they were immature, they thought it was.
Paul told the more mature Christians they shouldn’t criticize these young Christians. Then Paul said, “For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,” (Romans 12).
Paul is saying, “don’t major on minors.” It is easy for us to do that. For instance, maybe another Christian drinks. I don’t drink but, my main purpose on earth is not to judge people that drink. Instead, Paul said “live a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Don’t focus on things we should not do and neglect to live a life of peace and joy. Jesus told us to be loving. We are to help others. We are to encourage and forgive others.
We all have enough sin in our lives that needs to be confessed. Don’t dwell on the sins of others.
Today, don’t dwell on minor things. Live a life of peace, joy and happiness.
