“I Have A Friend In The Business”

“I know someone that knows someone…”
Ever heard someone say that or something like it. You likely have. And, at times, people do know someone with influence. But, many times, the person behind that comment is someone who likes to “name drop.” They want you to think they have connections.
It is helpful at times to know someone with influence. Many people get a job that way. But let’s say you don’t know a soul. All you have is you and your resume and the Lord. That’s enough… especially if the Lord is involved.
The Psalmist said, “Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel[a] as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God” (Ps. 146:3-5).
Notice the Psalmist say, “Don’t put your confidence in powerful people…” Instead, “…joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper.”
Back in the ninety’s, a church came open that I was really interested in.  A few people recommended me to the pulpit committee of the church. I just knew I was going there. I never got a call. I never even got a call from someone saying they had the wrong number! A couple of people recommended me and Nothing!
But there was another church that one man recommended me to. When he asked for permission to recommend me, I told him he could but I never gave it a second thought. You know where this is going… Yep. I went to the second church.
You may feel like you have absolutely no connections… no one with influence and honestly, you may be right but, if you have the Lord, that’s all you need.
And… “you do know someone in the business.” You know the Lord and He knows everyone!
