(I write a weekly article for the Daily Tribune in Cartersville. This is the article for today. )
About a year ago, our family had gone to Louisiana and south Mississippi to see our extended families. We stayed with my mother-in-law for a few days in Centreville, MS. Centreville is a little small town in southwest Mississippi. One morning, somehow a puppy was left on my mother-in-law’s carport. The dog was whining and my kids heard it. They went outside and picked the dog up and quickly became attached. Then, they came to me wanting to bring the dog back to Georgia. I told them they were crazy. We had an eight-hour drive ahead of us and I didn’t want a smelly dog in the vehicle. But they begged and pleaded and guess what? Yep, the dog came home. My oldest son and his fiancé got the dog and named her “Miss” (because they found her in Mississippi) Molly.”
Since coming to Georgia, Miss Molly has had a pretty good life. My son and daughter-in-law even had Miss Mollie in doggie daycare. Yes, you read that right. Doggie daycare. I’ve never heard of such a thing.
So, this past Sunday, while having lunch on Mother’s Day, I told my son, “If Molly could speak, this would be her testimony.” So, here goes… “Molly’s testimony
“I had been left under the carport of an elderly women’s home. I shudder to think what might have happened to me. In Mississippi, when dogs are abandoned, well, bad things often happen to them. So, I’m lucky to be alive.
I am so thankful that a young man and his girlfriend from Georgia were in that house. They had a soft spot for dogs like me. They heard my whining and came out and rescued me. Are y’all familiar with the old gospel song?
‘I was sinking deep in sin, Far from the peaceful shore.
… Love lifted me, Love lifted me?’
You are familiar with song, right? Well, that’s my testimony. I was left for dead. I would probably have been killed… But I was rescued.
That day, as we drove back to Georgia, I couldn’t believe what was happening to me. I was warm and I was being held and I didn’t want it to end. I was so happy to have a Master who loved me and wouldn’t throw me out for anyone to pick up.
Then, when I got to Georgia, I couldn’t believe it; I got to stay INSIDE. Yes! I even had cable TV! In Mississippi, most dogs don’t get to watch cable. I was so happy, happy, happy! I prayed, as best I could and thanked God for my new home.
Then, one day my Master took me to a place where there were other dogs. I was told this was “doggie day care.” I had never heard of such a place but it was great! I’m a dog’s dog and I LOVED being around other dogs. There were times when I was resting and again, I couldn’t believe how God had blessed me. I was left for dead and now I was in doggie daycare!
So, friends, I want you to know that there is a God in heaven. I’m proof of it. I was left for dead… until I was rescued and brought to another state. And now that I live in Georgia, I’m a DAWG fan. No pun intended. “☺
Maybe you are like “Miss Molly”… kind of left to survive… Jesus loves you and I can assure you, cares for you more than any animal. God will rescue us and save us if we ask.
