Picking Butter Beans

Back in the early 90’s, I was pastor of Heuck’s Retreat in Brookhaven. I was very good friends with Bro. Bob Self. One Wednesday during the summer, he told me he was missing his Wednesday night service to go see his Dad. He said his Dad told him recently, “You don’t ever come pick butter beans with me any more” so, Bro. Bob was missing church to go pick butter beans with his Daddy.
But it wasn’t about picking butter beans; it was about being with his Dad. His Dad enjoyed the times when he & his son could visit and it just happened to be while picking butter beans.
We live in a fast-paced, text messaging – face-timing – emailing world. But there is still a place for sitting down and visiting with someone. MAKE time for it. One day you will be glad you did.
Anyone you need to go pick butter beans with?
