Doing something new is exciting but, it can also be a little scary. Most of us like the routine. We are comfortable there. We know people and they know us and that gives us comfort. So, when we move or take a new job or try a new church, we don’t always care for it but it causes us to get out of our routine.
In the book of Joshua, the Bible says Joshua was preparing Israel to cross the Jordan. He told them, “When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God, move out from your positions and follow them. Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you” (Joshua 1:3-4). I love the last part of that verse… “…. since you have never passed this way before, they will guide you.”
There are lots of people passing a way they have never been before. Maybe someone reading this post is passing a way they’ve never been before. Maybe you are moving to a new address… taking a new job… looking for a new church? And you are anxious. You’ve never passed this way before… you need some help. Joshua told Israel the Levitical priests would guide them and they represented the Lord. So, the people would follow the priests and they would lead Israel through a place they had never been before.
Today, if you are going through a placed you’ve never been before, the Lord will guide you. Ok, you may ask, “Ok, just HOW will the Lord guide me?” God guides us through His word. God guides us through prayer. God guides us through people.
Also, one last note… if you are a Christian and trying to follow God, if you are going to a place you’ve never been before, you are doing it in the center of God’s will. So, if God has called you, God will guide you. Follow the Lord, since “… you’ve never passed this way before.”
