Growth… Change… Requires Leaving Our Comfort Zone

I am currently considering doing something that would be a change for me.  I have been thinking about it for a few days.  Yesterday, as I was thinking, it hit me; I’m struggling with leaving my comfort zone.  That’s a major part of what I’m facing… I’m struggling with leaving my comfort zone.  I don’t want to be uncomfortable and this would, for a short-time at least, require me to be uncomfortable.

All of us like to be comfortable.  That’s human nature.  But, most of the time, in order for growth or change to take place, we must be uncomfortable.

To get in shape, we must be uncomfortable.. we must exercise and our pain will ache but, that’s all part of getting in shape.

To get healthy financially we must be uncomfortable.  There is something we may have to stop spending money on.

This is definitely true in the church.  A Sunday School class may be asked to move from one room to another… in order for the church to grow.  People may be asked to move from one service to another, to help the church reach more people.  People may be asked to give to a building fund, to build more buildings and reach more people.

Maybe you are struggling with this very thing.  You have been asked to change and you don’t want to.  You don’t want to leave your comfort zone.

Most of the time.. the majority of the time… in order for progress to be made… in order for growth to take place, we will have to change… we will have to leave our comfort zone but, if the Lord is in it, the Lord will help us.

Jesus said, “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much  and will in inherit eternal life” (Matthew 19:29).

So, we are rewarded for leaving our comfort zone.  If God is calling you to do it, step out on faith today.
