Forgiveness Doesn’t Come With A Debt

Yesterday I was listening to a Mary Chapin Carpenter song while working out. The song is entitled, “I take my chances.”

In the song she talks about listening to a TV preacher who promised her that he “knew the way, according to him, in exchange for my personal check.” Hearing that, she changed channels, lit another cigarette and said “forgiveness doesn’t come with a debt.”

She’s right; it doesn’t. Forgiveness is free. Now, when we experience forgiveness, that should inspire us to live for Jesus. But, we aren’t required too. God gives us a free will. Besides, if forgiveness came with a debt none of us would be able to repay.

Forgiveness does not come with a debt.. Thank the Lord and the Lord will forgive us of anything. That’s the amazing thing about Christianity; there is nothing we have done that we can’t be forgiven for. Nothing. And, it doesn’t come with a debt.

I John 1:9 says, “If you confess your sins, Jesus is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness”…debt free.
