Do you need to have a funeral?
No, I’m not talking about a funeral for you or anyone else. I’m talking about a funeral where you bury some stuff from the past and move on. In the book, “Home Run: Learn God’s Plan For Life And Leadership” Kevin Myers talks about having a funeral.
Kevin had reached a point where he needed a new dream. The dream he’d had for years was gone. But he hadn’t realized it. So. he was dragging a dream that carried no meaning with him into the future.
We can do the same Are you dwelling on the past? Is there some hurt or bitterness from the past that you still rehearse? You need to have a funeral and bury it.
Or maybe it was success. I’ve heard Christians who LOVE to talk about the “good ole days” of the church. They can tell stories about that past. They love to talk about ole “brother so and so” used to do things. The only problem is, that happened years ago. It’s a new day. God isn’t stuck the past.
People can do that. People love to talk about what they “used” to do. They may have done some wonderful things but that’s over. What about today?
Maybe you need to have a funeral. Maybe you literally need to go deep into the woods and bury something. Or, maybe bury it in your yard.
The apostle Paul said, “Forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead” (Phil. 3:13).
Today, are you living in the past? Are you nursing a grudge from the past? Are you living off the success of the past? Do you need a new dream? Today, bury the past and move forward.
