Do you like to be alone? If you are like lots of people maybe your answers is “no.” Maybe you go places just to keep from being alone.
I admit… for years, I didn’t care to be alone. I’m a people-person. I loved and still love being around people.
But, there are times when we need to be alone. In the book of Genesis, there was a time when Jacob was about to meet his brother Esau whom he hadn’t seen in years. Jacob was afraid. The night before Jacob met Esau, the Bible says, “This left Jacob all alone in the camp” (Gen. 32:24). And, the Bible says, Jacob wrestled with an angel from God that night.
Being alone is good. We all need to be alone at times. Some times, we need to be alone with God and just allow God to speak to us. No noise. No tv. No traffic. Just you and God… alone.
There are times we need to be alone to kind of come to grips with who we are. Maybe you have spent lots of time trying to be something someone else wants you to be. Maybe you have felt the pressure to conform. Whatever it may be, at times, we need to be alone to determine who God made us to be.. What’s important to us, etc…
There are times when we need to be alone with God to determine our future plans. What is God calling you to do? What is your purpose in life?
Being alone… is not a bad thing. There are times we need to be alone to listen to God. The Bible says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed” (Mark 1:35). Just like our Lord, we need to be alone to pray.
