A couple of years ago, Fred Luter, a Pastor in New Orleans, was elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was the first African-American to be elected President. He told a story about how tough it was for him growing up. He said his Mother worked two jobs… not trying to make ends meet…. but just hoping they would kind of wave at one another. lol I can identify and many who read this can as well.
Many people are struggling financially. And, because of that, we can begin to question or doubt God’s provision. In the book of Genesis there is a story about a time when God called Abraham to take his son, Isaac and offer him as a sacrifice. Again, this was Abraham’s only son. Lord, have mercy, I can’t imagine…
So Abraham takes Isaac and they make their way to Mount Moriah. There, Abraham prepares Isaac to be a sacrifice. Then, Abraham takes his knife, raises his hands and his about to offer Isaac when he hears God’s voice, “Abraham, Abraham!” Then, God told Abraham to look in the thicket, and there was a ram for Abraham to use as the offering instead of Isaac.
Because God spared his son, Isaac, Abraham named that place “Jehovah Jireh,” which means “God will provide.”
I don’t know what you are going through but God will take care of us. I didn’t say we would have all the bells and whistles. We may not be able to afford a vacation. We may not be able to purchase the trendiest clothes. We may not be able to eat out much if at all. But. God will provide for our NEEDS.
Today, join me in trusting God… Jehovah Jireh, for our needs.
