Yesterday, my daughter, Sarah, graduated from Kennesaw State. If you had polled all the graduates and asked them what they wanted out of life… what they hoped to achieve… many would have said they wanted to make lots of money and get rich. Happiness, for many people, means getting rich.
But. does wealth, does money bring happiness? Proverbs 30:8-9 says, “give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?”
And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.”
The writer asks for just enough money to take care of his needs. Maybe you are struggling with the fact that you aren’t making as much money as you thought you would. You kind of feel like a failure because you aren’t. Well, I can assure you… you aren’t looked upon as a failure. The Lord loves you regardless of your socioeconomic level.
Money does not guarantee happiness. We all need to be more like the writer of this Proverb… we need to be content with what we have.
