Criticism…. most people don’t care for it but, it can be good for us. None of us are perfect. All of us can do our jobs better… we can improve. To do that, we may have to receive some criticism…. good criticism, that is.
When I mention criticism, I’m not talking about listening to everyone who has a bone to pick. Zig Ziglar once said, “Some people find fault like there’s a reward for it.” But, constructive criticism can help us.
The Bible says, “Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery” (Prov. 29:1). The writer is saying we should be open to criticism because it can make us better. Several years ago, a Pastor friend told me that when he received criticism, He asked the Lord to show him if it wasn’t something he needed to hear and then, he tossed the rest aside. That’s good advice for all of us.
There’s an old saying regarding criticism: “If one person calls you a donkey, get a second opinion. If two people call you a donkey, look in the mirror. If three people call you a donkey, get a saddle.”
Today, if you receive criticism… listen… be open… ask the Lord to speak to your heart about what is said and if it’s something you need to hear, take action on it and… throw the rest away.
