A TRUE Friend Walks In When Everyone Else Walks Out
Friends... real, true, loyal friends are HARD to come by. That's why this story stood out to me.
Yesterday, one of the major news stories was the development that some key people had resigned from Newt Gingrich's campaign. Various news commentators stated that it would likely be very very difficult for Gingrich to recover. It may be... I'm definitely not a political pundit so I don't know how those things work.
But, in the midst of the story about the resignations in Gingrich's campaign there was the story.. basically one sentence on the news... that Governor Nathan Deal still supports Gingrich. I don't know Governor Deal nor Newt Gingrich and it's possible I'm bragging on Governor Deal when I shouldn't be. Maybe there is some political reason he's supporting Gingrich. But, let's take him at his word... he says Gingrich is his friend so, regardless of who bails out on him, he is still supporting him.
That reminds me of an old line about friendship; "A true friend walks IN when everyone else walks OUT."
And another; "A true friend is the kind that.. if you called them from jail they wouldn't ask "why?" but "where are you and what do you need?"
That's a friend.
In contrast to this story... a couple of days ago when the Anthony Weiner story was breaking.. (And I by no means condone what Weiner did... he was wrong) Harry Reid gave a brief press conference in essence distancing himself from Rep. Weiner. As Reid turned to walk away a reporter shouted "What will you tell him if he calls you?"
Reid paused, thought a second or two and said "I would tell him to call someone else."
Of course, the press laughed.
Wow! Way to go Harry!
I thought "That's politics for you... There was probably a time in the past year when Reid and other high-ranking Democratic officials were pleading with Weiner for his vote on something... They NEEDED him then... Now, when he needs them, they make a joke about him."
Is there someone today who needs YOU to be a friend? Someone whose life is taking on some water and they need someone to help them plug the holes.
By the way.... it's nice to have human friends.. we all need them but.. .Jesus is the only friend who will always be loyal. Let Jesus be your friend today.
