Yes, They Messed Up.. Now, They Need To Be Picked Up

Well, another day.. another scandal...
At least, that's the way it seems...
Another person who  denied doing anything wrong and finally comes out and confesses that yes, he made a mistake.
In the past week, Jim Tressel high profile coach of the Ohio State Buckeye's resigned after lying on a statement he made to the NCAA.  Then, Anthony Weiner, congressman from New York, called a press conference and admitted he had sent lewd photos... after he denied it for several days.
You watch the news coverage of these events...you shake your head and ask "will it ever end?  What are these guys thinking?"
A couple of thoughts about these two events...
First, both were wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong... Tressel was wrong and Weiner was wrong.
Second, one of the first things that popped into my mind (and may be I'm wrong) but... if the two men had admitted they had mistakes instead of trying to cover it up, maybe public reaction would be different.  That's just my opinion.
Third, both men made mistakes... and they can be forgiven.  Tressel has suffered some consequences already.. he resigned his position.  Weiner may end up resigning before it's over.  Yet, even though what they did was wrong, they can be forgiven, if they humble themselves, confess their sin and ask God to forgive.
As Christians, we need to remember this... We quickly pick up stones and throw them when we have all made mistakes as well.  Ok, maybe ours were not public mistakes... maybe we didn't vehemently deny to the media that we made mistakes but... mistakes none-the-less.
Finally, who can trust anymore?  The answer to that is simple: Jesus Christ.  If you have your faith in anyone other than Jesus, it's in the wrong person.  Jesus alone will never let us down.
One lesson I have learned the hard way... . people, unfortunately, will let you down.  It happens.. and it will probably happen again.. which is why you must.. I must ... we must.. keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
One final thought... Christian... don't be too hard on people.  I am NOT defending Anthony Weiner or Jim Tressel.. both are wrong... But none of us are perfect either.
Yesterday I was in a restaurant and an individual walked in who, a couple of years ago was in the public eye... But the person made a mistake and has fallen.  I have no idea what they are doing now.  As this person walked in... my heart went out to them.  I wanted to get up, walk over and ask the person how they were doing but they were talking on their phone and I didn't.   The person made a mistake... but Jesus wants us to love people... even when they mess up.
