A Great Example of Good Sportsmanship

Sports can... unfortunately, bring out the worst in us. Especially when it involves rivals.
But recently, Heritage High School demonstrated the best of good sportsmanship by offering
their rival, Ringgold High, the use of their baseball field for Ringgold's home games during
the playoffs.
In today's New York Times, on the front page of the sports section is a story about Ringgold High baseball.  Almost two weeks ago, Ringgold was hit HARD by tornadoes.  Ringgold High School will be unusable until the fall.
Among things destroyed was the baseball field.  Prior to the storm, Ringgold was 21-2 and
ranked 5th in Class AAA .  After the storm and after viewing the devastation of his field, most thought the season was over.  But that was before the coach's phone began to ring.
Calls began coming in with offers of materials and help to rebuild the field.
Fellow coaches cut Ringgold some slack and approved the cancellation of their last two games and waved them through to the post-season tournament.
Then, their cross-town rival, Heritage High School offered the use of their field for Ringgold to
use as a "home" field in the playoffs.  As Ringgold opened the playoffs, Ringgold banners, hung
there by the hosts, draped the centerfield fence in the outfield.  One players said the sight of a Ringgold banner hanging where a banner for Heritage normally hangs "...gave you goose bumps."
This is a great example of great sportsmanship.  Congratulations to Heritage High School for great sportsmanship.  And best of luck to Ringgold in the playoffs.
