We're having a baby!

One of the happiest days of my life was Wednesday, June 24th, 1987. About 5:00 a.m
that morning (or maybe it was closer to 6 ).. Dr. Edsel Stewart placed in my hands a
BEAUTIFUL baby boy that Holli and I named Robert James Potts. I've been in a lot of
worship services but very few compare to how I felt at the moment Robert James was placed in my arms. I was a Daddy and I was proud! Yeah, I had and still do have the smartest, cutest, BEST baby in the world. I'm sure
every parent feels that way. I was excited! I was so excited I'm reminded of the man
who had just learned he was a Dad. The minister came by to see him. In his excitement,
he got his words twisted and said "Have a baby, Preacher! I just had a cigar." Well, I was happy about my new baby boy. Today, I'm proud to announce that we are having a baby! Now, I know, some of you
are aware of our age and are CERTAIN we must be adopting. But no, we aren't adopting and
yes, we are having a baby. Well, actually several people are having a baby. It's a group effort. Now, you are really scratching your head, right? Have you never heard of a group having
a baby? It happens all the time... when the baby is a church! I am happy to announce that, after much prayer and much research and much discussion
with others who have planted churches, Holli and I believe God is leading us to plant a church.
The church is "The Retreat at Dallas." Informational meetings have been held recently and a
small group is forming. Let me explain the significance of the name. A retreat is a place a person would go to get
away from the world and re-charge. The Retreat at Dallas is going to be place where a person
who has messed up... looking for answers... can attend worship and find grace. I want the retreat to be a place where:
A teenage girl who discovers she's pregnant and is afraid to tell her parents, can come
to us and find grace and help.
A man or woman who has made a mistake... had an affair... broken the law, dealing
with drug dependency, going through a divorce, etc... can come to us and find grace and help.

A person... regardless of their background... regardless of how they are dressed... will be
accepted  and loved just as they are.

I've been in the ministry for twenty-nine years and I am as excited about the beginning
of The Retreat as I am anything the Lord has led me to do in ministry. Holli and I ask for your
prayers as we begin this exciting new path in ministry.
