"When I said I do, I meant that I will..." A beautiful example of love
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day... a day to express your love for the one you love...
As I think about love, one of the sweetest and strongest expressions of love I've seen comes to mind. Back in October, Vernell Ragsdale, long-time member of First Baptist Church passed away suddenly on a Friday night at Paulding county hospital. During the final minutes of her life most of the family had left except for her husband, Sam.
Sam is a straight-talking Southern man. With most everyone gone from the room, Sam got a cup of coffee and sat down next to Vernell's bed and held her hand. It was as if he planned to walk with her up to the time she would slip off into eternity. As I prepared her funeral message I began to try to see Sam and Vernell on their wedding day. Sam had looked Vernell in the eyes and had promised to be faithful "until death do us part." And that's exactly what he did. He held her hand up until she slipped off into eternity.
Tonight, as Holli and I drove home, a song by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman came on. It's a beautiful song about love. Watch it below...
As you celebrate Valentine's Day... as you give the roses and the cards and the candy... remember the lyrics to the song... "When I said I do.. I meant that I will Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do."
That's what Sam Ragsdale had in mind. That's what we all should have in mind... be faithful and true devoted to you.."
