A tribute to my Mom, Myrna Potts, on her birthday.

Tomorrow, February 11th, my mom, Myrna Potts, will  be 69.  This post is a tribute to her.
Momma was born and reared in the little community of Mt. Hermon.  She was the second of three children born to Ray and Theora Brock.  She attended school at Mt. Hermon high where she played basketball  She graduated from there in May, 1960.  She married Daddy in July 1960 and I was born May 26, 1961.  They didn't waste any time. lol
Momma is a throw-back.  In today's world a large percentage of women work outside the  home.  Due to the hectic pace many Mom's have, family meals are often grabbing fast-food or getting  take-out.  But Momma was a stay at home Mom. So, she cooked most of the time.  In addition to being "Momma" she was also Daddy's book-keeper for the dairy.  She wrote the checks and paid the bills.  And, she ran a lot of errands like driving into town to pick up a part for a tractor or farm  implement.
When we were cutting hay or planting  pasture in the fall, it  wasn't uncommon around lunch time (we called it dinner ) to  see Momma come  driving up with sandwiches for everybody so we wouldn't have to quit our jobs very long.
In the mornings, after we had finished milking, Daddy would go in the office at the barn and call  Momma and tell her we would be there in a few minutes.  That was her cue to get breakfast warmed up.  When we walked in the house, we would change our "barn"  clothes and sit down to breakfast.
When I was in high school and we had "away" games in basketball, I would come in after Momma and Daddy had already gone to bed.  After closing the door behind me, I would often hear "Gregg."
"Yes, Ma'am," I would reply.
"You want something to eat?"
Now, remember, it's 10:30 at night.  But, SURE I wanted something  to eat.
Momma would get up, come to the kitchen and make me a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.  Yeah, I know; I was spoiled.
In the past couple of years and  more specifically, the last year, Momma's role  has completely changed.  Daddy's healthy has declined rapidly and  Momma has become his caretaker.  Last July Momma and Daddy celebrated 50 years of marriage. Since that time, we have had to put Daddy in a nursing home.
This is a pic of Mom & Dad, Mitzi, Deana and Me at their 50th anniversary celebration last July...

In addition  to being a Mom to me and my two  sisters, Mitzi Conn  of Natchez and Deana Simmons of Kentwood, Momma is "Myr" to 7 grandchildren; Robert, Will & Sarah Potts;  David & Daniel Simmons and Trace and Corey Conn.  And like any grandmother, Myr LOVES her grandkids.
One of the ways she expresses that is by cooking for them.  When our kids were little, one of the highlights of their summer was getting to spend a week with "Pops & Myr."  All week, Momma fed them ice-cream sandwiches, mac & cheese, hot dogs and whatever else they wanted.  They always came home  with  big cheeks after eating at Myr's for a week.
Tomorrow, Momma is 69.  Momma, thank you for every sandwich, every meal, every button  you have sewed on, and all the love you have given me, Mitzi and Deana as well  as the grandkids. Thank you for loving Daddy and staying together.  Thank you for taking care of him as you did.  Thank  you for being  a great Momma.
If heaven had a kitchen, I have a feeling Momma would be showing the angels how to make  fried chicken and macaronni & cheese.
Love you, Momma & happy birthday.
