When the man of faith (Abraham) struggled with faith.
Faith.... I admit,I struggle with it some.
Not saving faith.. I have no problem with that. I believe in Jesus and the Bible and everything necessary for one to be saved.
But it's faith to trust God for other stuff.. Ok, please don''t go judgmental on me and start saying "I'm not spiritual." I'm just being honest.. there are times when I struggle with faith.
But, you know what I'm not alone. Nope.. not alone at all. There was a man in the Old Testament... in fact, he has a song named for him.. his name is Abe.. well, that's his abbreviated name.. his full name is Abraham.
Yep, that's right... THAT Abraham. The same man who had the faith to offer his son as a sacrifice on Mt.Moriah. Prior to that Abraham struggled with faith.
In Genesis 12:10-13 the BiBle says "Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, "I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.'
Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you."
Did you get that? Abraham told Sarai "... Say you are my sister..." But she wasn't his sister. She was his wife. So, although Abraham was known as a man of faith.. in this instance, his faith wasn't as strong as it should be.
Personally, I'm thankful for this verse. This shows me that even the great men of the Bible had their flaws.
So, what do you do if you struggle with faith?
First, admit it. Be honest with God and tell God about it.
Second, the only way to deal with weak faith is to have faith. Maybe you need to start with small steps. If you struggle with faith, don't beat yourself up... you are definitely not alone. Abraham struggled with it as well. But,it's important not to stay where you are. Admit your problem with faith to God and begin taking small steps... trusting God and watch your faith grow.
In Mark 9:24, a man brought his son to Jesus. Jesus asked the man if he believed that he (Jesus) could heal his son? The man was honest; he said "I do believe; help my unbelief."
I can identify with that man. I believe but, there are times when I struggle with it. I'm going to ask the Lord to help me with faith. How about you?
