From one generation to another; a legacy continues.

This week we are in Mississippi & Louisiana visiting family for Christmas.  This is the first time my kids have seen Daddy since he has been moved into the nursing home, so I kind of braced myself for their reaction.  Below,  you see a pic of the kids with Daddy.

Now, let's the put dvd on rewind. Go back with me about 23 years. That's about the time
Robert, our oldest, and Daddy's first grandchild was born. It would be a gross understatement
to say that Robert Earl Potts was PROUD of Robert James Potts when he was born on June 24,
1987 just like he's proud of his six other grandkids. One day, after Robert was born I was riding
with Daddy and he said, "Well, there will always be a Robert Potts around this place." It kind of
stunned me. Daddy was obviously proud we had chosen the name "Robert." Several years ago Daddy ran for the Tangipahoa Parish School Board. He believed strongly
in education and thoroughly enjoyed his time of service on the school board. Now, several years
later, Robert James Potts has developed an interest in politics as well. He is Chairman of College
Republicans at Kennessaw State University and has helped out on a few campaigns. This week, while we were visiting with Momma, Robert went into a room where some of
Daddy's old campaign signs were. They read "Robert Potts... Candidate for Tangipahoa Parish
School Board..." My Robert wanted one of those. I thought that was interesting. Robert didn't explain why but, I'm guessing that sign and the legacy of his "Pops" in politics
inspires him. Robert knows his "Pops" is aging. At one time, Daddy could carry on a discussion
with most anyone on any subject. He was well read. Now, Parkinson's has stripped him of much
of his mental capacity. No doubt, if/when Robert ever runs for office, he will remember his Pops running for school
board back in Louisiana. There is a little family legacy there. Robert, I can tell you, Pops would
be proud of you even if you never ran for office. He thought the world of his grandkids. But, this
reminds me that we are all leaving a legacy. Daddy's legacy in politics inspired his grandson,
Robert. What kind of legacy are you leaving?
Revelation 14:13 says, "...'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'"
"Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them." We are leaving a legacy. It's being written every day. What kind of legacy are you leaving?
Let's live in a such a way that we leave a legacy of integrity, caring and a legacy of Christian living.
We can inspire generations that come behind us in a positive way if we do.
