Snow covers a lot of ugly

One of the most familiar Christmas songs is "White Christmas."  Most have heard Bing Crosby,  in a smooth baritone voice sing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas."  As Bing sings the song, snow falls behind him.  It's a beautiful scene.
And, if you are a dreamer at Christmas you find yourself  listening to "White Christmas" and thinking, "Ah.. that would be so great to have a white Christmas.... a post card type Christmas."
I grew up in Louisiana and in the deep south, well, pretty much all you can do is DREAM of a white Christmas because the chances of it happening aren't very good... until this year.  About the middle of last week, someone came by the church to deliver something and said "I'm hearing there could be snow on Christmas."  I thought, "Yeah, right!"  But, I went and checked the computer and, sure enough, the weather forecast had the possibility of snow in the forecast for Christmas.
Christmas morning we woke up to cold weather.  Later, snow started falling and kept falling and kept falling...  So, this year, we didn't just dream of a white Christmas; we had one.
And, the snow was beautiful.  Our family was driving west  on I-20 going to Louisiana on Sunday.  As we did we saw the snow  on the roadside of the interstate.  As we drove, Holli said "snow covers up a lot of ugly."  She added that she had seen snow covering an ugly construction site and also, snow covered an old abandoned house.  In both instances, the beautiful snow made the construction site and the abandoned house prettier.
She's right; snow can over a lot of ugly.  The scripture says "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool" (Isa.1:18).
As we move into the final week of 2010 we will look back on the year.  As we do we will remember the good things but we may also remember with regret, some mistakes that were made.  Things we would differently if we could.  As those things come to mind, ask Jesus to forgive you and rest in his forgiveness.  It doesn't matter how ugly the mistake was, Jesus forgives.
"Though your sins be as scarlet... " Scarlet is red. "They shall be as white as snow..." That's a major
transformation. No matter how badly we messed up, Jesus will cover our sins and make them as white as
snow. As we prepare to close out the year 2010, maybe you are holding on to some mistakes from this year.  Ask the Lord to forgive you and by God's grace, move on.  Though your sins are as scarlet, they can be as white as snow.
As we move into 2010 remember this; "If you live in the past, you live in regret; If you live in the future, you live in fear; If you live in the present, you live peace."
God wants to give you peace through the forgiveness of sins.
