A key to happiness: Know who you are & be yourself.

Everyone wants to be happy.  I don't know that anyone would say "My goal in life is to be miserable."  Now, I know some folks seem to ALWAYS be miserable but... well, that's another subject.  Most of us want to be happy.
And a key to happiness is understanding who we are and being ourselves.  That's not psychobabble; it's real stuff.  Let me explain.
I've just finished reading a book by Rich Devos entitled "Ten Positive Phrases For Positive People."  In the last chapter, Devos talks about a man who worked for Amway.  The man  was a great truck driver.  In fact, he was so good, the company promoted him to be the manager of the truck drivers.  So, this guy ought to be happy, right?  He got a promotion and, everyone wants a promotion, right?
      Not necessarily.
This man worked as the manger of the  truck  drivers for a while and then, told someone, "Get me out of this job and  let me go back  to driving trucks!"  The guy loved driving trucks.  He didn't want to manage  the truck drivers, he wanted to drive a truck!  He understood himself.
Several  years ago  (I don't remember the year) Dr. Frank  Pollard had been the President of Golden Gate Seminary.  But, he resigned  that position  to become the Pastor of First Baptist church, Jackson, MS.  I remember the press release when Dr. Pollard announced he was stepping down as President of the Seminary.  He said, "I am simply a Baptist preacher."  Translated, that meant; "I'm not an administrator... I'm a Pastor."  Dr. Pollard knew himself.
So, do you know who you are?
You might reply, "Sure,  I know exactly who I am."
No, that's not what I mean.  I mean, do you know your strengths and weaknesses?
When my Dad graduated from college he started selling life insurance.  He had a small office in downtown Hammond, La.  As a salesman, he put on a coat and tie everyday and even got to travel some.
But, his heart was in farming and he was good at farming.  So, he developed a plan that would allow him to start farming and gradually build his farm up.  He could have made a good  living selling insurance and, although I wasn't old  enough to see him and watch how he conducted himself as a salesman, there is no doubt in my mind he would have been successful at that.  But, that wasn't what made him happy.  Farming did.
So, what makes you happy?  I'm not  talking  about your team winning or going on a shopping spree either.  A key to happiness is knowing your yourself; your strengths and weaknesses and then, being yourself.
Jeremiah 1:5 says "Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."
The Lord made you and knows your strengths.  Be yourself and be happy!
